Before starting Dr. S.E. Schwarz Consulting, Sylvia served as Vice President Clinical Operations at Speransa Therapeutics (Frankfurt) to develop a COVID-19 vaccine based on a novel viral vector platform. She is looking back on a professional track record of more than two decades, consisting of research in international academic institutes, i.e., Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum (DKFZ, German Cancer Research Center, Heidelberg), California Institute of Technology (Pasadena, California) and of drug development in further pharmaceutical and biotech companies (Affimed, Boehringer Ingelheim, Merck KGaA, TopoTarget/Onxeo) where she held various leadership positions mainly in Clinical Operations and focused her work on the development of treatment options in oncology and inflammatory diseases. Sylvia gained her PhD on research in the area of molecular virology/oncology at the DKFZ in Heidelberg, Germany.
Sylvia held various positions in biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies which allowed her to gain more than 20 years of experience in Clinical Research and Development. She is a well-versed healthcare research professional offering a broad knowledge in program and project management (from set-up to finalization). In addition, she gained a long-standing expertise in clinical development strategy and implementation within a wide range of therapeutic areas as well as most recently within the field of vaccination. Her knowledge covers clinical trials of phase I (including healthy volunteer and first-in-human trials) to phase III with small chemical entities, biologics, biosimilars and vaccines including genetically modified organisms. The clinical trials supervised included clinical sites in Europe, USA and in the Asia Pacific region.
